Studied Economics and Sociology, couldn’t decide which one is less practical.
Enjoy everything that make this life beautiful. Love, Jazz, books, movies, sense of humor, travelling…You know, the usual stuff.
Love Kurt Vonnegut, Jon Stewart, Leonard Cohen. A humanist/brilliant writer, a political critic/comedian, a poet/novelist/song writer/singer. Pretty much sums up my taste in men.
Dear old Kurt once wrote:”Lovemaking if sincere, is one of the best ideas Satan put in the apple she gave to the serpent to give to Eve. The best idea in that apple though, is making Jazz.” Have no idea why he assumed that Satan was female, but I do agree with what he said about Jazz.

Apart from thanking you for linking to my blog, I should also have mentioned that I lived in Hong Kong for eight years (1987-1994). What great memories! I envy you, for sure.

Eight years! That’s for sure a loooong time! What were you doing here? Foregin correspondece?
I know, lots of people told me how much they like HK, but for me it’s just another city I get tired of already. Guess I don’t know what I am missing, haha.

Hey there! As a huge Vonnegut fan, I googled “Our Lady of Perpetual Astonishment” just to see what’s out there, and your blog was one of the top hits. I took a nosy peek. Sounds like you are living abroad – for work? I did that for a while, for 3 years from ’02-05 I lived in France, Poland, Scotland, Hungary, and Belgium, travelling all alone, for my job. There were male colleagues in similar positions but I was the only single female I knew who did that, and took a lot of pride in it. It’s more difficult for a woman to travel alone, to go out alone, you attract more attention – and yeah I had a few bad scares, but coming out the other side of them made me feel all the more independent and tough. I can certainly relate to some of your comments – esp about not much to do on weekends in Europe when you don’t know anybody and get a little weary of sightseeing, incredible sights though they have. I loved my experience but the best part about it was gaining a better appreciation of my home when I returned, even under an administration I didn’t like. Not that I ever disliked home – but – well you probably know what I mean. Everyone should relish the opportunity to live as a minority somewhere. Being Chinese you may have already known what some of that is like, but it definitely gave me better perspective. Anyway – I could go on all day but I’ll spare you. Good for you for blogging your experience , I so regret not journalling mine.
Take care my comrade! And stay safe, keep your head up & eyes sharp, let everyone know you are a woman to be reckoned with.

Dear Julie,
Thank you so much for your kind words and encouragement. Yea, I am now working in Germany and am loving every minute of it. It does take courage to uproot yourself and to start afresh , but that’s what makes it so exciting!
Hope you are having fun doing what you are doing. And take good care, too.

There’s nothing like answering a query nine months late. I hope you’re still alive. Yes, I was an editor and reporter for Reuters during my happy years in Hong Kong. I still miss it sometimes.
And BTW, Kurt Vonnegut and I share the same hometown, and I got to interview him a few years ago at his apartment in NYC. What a fantastic afternoon!
